Cura Extrusion Widths

Does anybody have a problem with the extrusion widths in CURA 2.3.1 or higher version?
It seems there is an issue where the extrusion widths jumps from almost 0 to also 0.50 mm in the resultant GCODE,when you expect a somewhat consistent
extrusion width when printing with a 0.4mm nozzle, and 0.4mm extrusion width settings.

We don’t see this same behaviour in Slicer for similar settings.

Here is a visualization of the GCODE Produced by CURA:

Maybe that is the “Overlap compensation” introduced in 2.3?

I don’t know, if it is, it’s probably not working very well…

I don’t expect to see such a huge difference… perhaps 5% or 10% extra, not 40 - 50% larger extrusion widths…

@Stephanie_A , didn’t you do some work on Cura? Or was that Slicer?

Maybe you have any idea why extrusion width is produced with such high deviations in Cura?

May be “equalize filament flow”?

It could be pressure compensation.

I’ll do the same comparison in Slicer using the same parameters, and again calculate the extrusion width to compare…

I’m not using any fancy settings in Cura, therefore don’t expect any such deviations…

Cura various extrusion widths to fill in gaps. Visualized gcode with 50% line width:

Note that Cura has been doing this for years, recent versions only have gotten better at it.

Thank you for clarifying @Daid_Braam .

@Daid_Braam , what software did you use to show the extrusion widths?

I used the Old 15.04 Cura. Which doesn’t visualize it perfectly, due to a bug (some layers are missing) But I knew it would calculate the widths from the GCode.
