So I’m doing something probably all fathers are doing today for Father’s Day. Laser engraving my new machete I got for Father’s Day.

Huh. I won a nice Gerber machete a couple years ago. Now I need to try this. What were your settings? Did you use any marking aids?

This was done on my 50W machine. I did like 65% @ 300m/s with 0.05 steps.
The machete is resting on some bar magnets which lock it in place. Positioning the graphic was a bit of a pain because I don’t have a camera setup for light burn yet.
I set the orientation of the blade so the laser would parallel the start of the bevel. Just watched the positioning laser as I ran a frame to see if it was parallel. Then just fiddled with the start position while doing framings to get it positioned right.
It was masked to make clean up easier. Scrubbed a bit with hot soapy water and then applied some light machine oil.
