What laser to cut 5mm wood?

Hey,

I want to cut 5mm plywood. Speed and burned edges are of no concearn as I will just use the pieces as templates to copy to a bigger sheet via a router. So I could run multiple passes. If the laser could engrave or edge cork, that would be a plus.

From what I understand, a 5 W 450nm diode can cut through 5 mm plywood, right?

I would prefer a ready-to-use solution, but as my budget is limited, I looked into K40. Seems like a lot of modding and work to get it running safe. Atfer that it has a rather limited area to work on and I am not sure, if I will really need all that power of a co2 laser.

Would it make more sense to build a rail-system with a diode?

What do you guys think?
