The gigantic 24V solenoid I bought to:

  1. Have a plotter mode on my QR;
  2. Try to do Z-Lift without the moving the bed (pre-processing the GCode and adding some code associated to retraction to command the solenoid);
    Let’s see…

By the way… Where I bought it?
Fast and efficient screw and other electronics components supplier for Europe.

Very happy so far. High quality stuff.

The dildotend?

The original plan was to use this for plotter mode at first. Then I thought: “why not using this for z-lift to win some speed”. The problem I have is that I still need some signal to activate the solenoid. It could be anything digital really. Pre-processing the G-Code to recognize the retraction is easy (it’s just a matter of identifying the length for example, then it’s just replacing it with the code that activate/de-activate the solenoid). We just need something supported in the GCode/Firmware that can trigger an output. In the case of the smoothieware I’m using, it shouldn’t be problem. I guess Marlin could use the signal for the Z-Probe for example (if not in use of course). Any thought?
