Spotted that too. Bare in mind that it’s only the controller: http://www.st.com/internet/analog/product/255274.jsp You still have to provide the final power stage transistors.

That’s not a bad thing - probably a significant advantage for thermal management issues - just not “single chip” in the same sense as the Allegro stepper drivers which do have the integrated power stage.
