I don’t mean to call your current successes a fail, but, have you considered posting your current progress as a fail of the week to HackaDay to get a wider audiences input?
It was indeed a fail, but at least there’s a new widget in ChiliPeppr for controlling a laser based on the Z axis. Yeah, that’s not a bad idea to get broader input on the temperature control.
