I’ve just added a significant plate to stiffen the column on my milling machine and thought it might be of interest:
Stiffening bracket improves the quality of the surface finish
This created a volume at the bottom of the column and I made some sand bags to add some damping
The vibration damping is probably very small, but without this there is little to no damping in a machine tool.
