Luckily there’s plenty of room for a large board like the Duet Wifi in the Printrbot Metal Plus. I’m hoping the reception with the base removed is acceptable.
From what I’ve experienced, running wifi (2.4ghz) in steel is tough. Let me know how that works out for you. That is one heck of a setup!
It’s a shame the ESP8266 doesn’t have an external antenna ipx port. There is an ethernet version of the Duet coming but it’s not available yet.
Esp8266 antenna: Search Google, there are a few posts on cutting a pcb track to the antenna and then adding an external antenna
@Javier_Prieto I considered buying the Duet 0.8.5 instead, but decided it was worth the potential problems with the wifi in a metal enclosure to have the latest and greatest.
Duet wifi is awesome man, I had the 0.6 and it is a fantastic improvement
