Hand poi, or attached to a string?

I haven’t added the string assembly yet. I was just excited about how pretty it was lol.

When I make the other one tomorrow ill post a proper poi video.

I still need to order some polycarbonate tube. I found this in the plumbing area of the local lowes. Its a bathroom sink extention. Hahaha

I get tubing from McMaster

@Ashley_M_Kirchner_No what tubing do you use from them? I am building a staff and I’m trying to source my tubing. They have some clear tubing that matches PVC OD that I was thinking about frosting to make it translucent but I’m open to other ideas. I’m really trying to stick to PVC dimensions so I can use the fittings.

I only use straight, clear polycarbonate for the stuff I’m doing. If you need frosted tubing, you’ll have to contact them to get straight tubing, otherwise they’ll roll it up.

I found frosed pvc and also clear colors from a place on google. But the prices for wayyyy to much. I’m not at home right now but when I get home ill post the link.

http://www.mcmaster.com/#49035K85 is the stuff I was talking about on mcmaster and it’s reasonably priced compared to the stuff I found on Google. I was thinking about using acetone or something else to frost it.

I use polycarbonate for its impact strength. It’s slightly cheaper too: http://www.mcmaster.com/#polycarbonate-hollow-rods

@Ashley_M_Kirchner_No What do you use to cap the ends of the rods? I haven’t found a decent source.

@Michael_Sharnet Have you thought about 3d printing the end caps?

@Chase_McGriff To create a diffusing effect on acrylic tubing - I have sanded the inside. Sanding the inside seemed like a challenge but There is an easy solution.
Attach a bit of velcro to a small wooden dowel or rod (I use velcro because the sandpaper I have has a velcro back)
Attach the rod or dowel to a drill.
Watch the RPM and sand away one pass at a time. Wooden dowels tend to break of you try to go to fast. I am now using a 5mm carbon fiber tube (filled with epoxy at the drill end) http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__6725__Carbon_Fiber_Tube_hollow_5x750mm.html
50 grit gives a decent white color to acrylic - I don’t have polycarbonate - so I can’t tell you this will work for you.

To clean the dust out of the tube I use a bit of microfiber towel and push it through with a rod.

@Larry1 Nope, but that is an idea to keep in mind. Do you have a suggestion about a vendor?

But, I also drill two holes on either side, through the polycarbonate and the cap, and run a bolt through them. This prevents the cap from coming out. Actually I stopped doing it that way, but it’s the easiest. I use small T-nuts on the inside of the cap, then put two bolts, one on each side. This leaves a nice flat bolt on the outside, with the nuts on the inside. I’ll post some pictures later today.

@Ashley_M_Kirchner_No Sweet.

too bad acrylic would break.

Yes it would. Policarbonate is better at impact than acrylic.

I agree, acrylic is not for POI.
