I know how true this is from personal experience. I used to be a teacher until December - within weeks of bringing in my printer the kids had gotten their teeth stuck into Solidworks (much harder than sketchup, especially for kids) and some were able to run the printer themselves.
The school now has it’s own printer, which the kids built (supervised by me) and the kids run. 3 of the kids now also own printers and print things for their friends as a sort of small business!
