Just answered to @Daniel_Wood post in the @ChiliPeppr and I think it is worth to ask this question: is it possible to use ArduinoDue+gShield with external motor drivers only? That means I want to disable gShield on-board drivers.
I already tested my ArduinoDue and gShield with additional 2 external DRV8825 drivers (total of 5 stepper motors), but first three were connected to the on-board drivers. I must say the pin description available for ArduinoDue was a great help. This is really awesome document, one page but extremely clear.

If possible I would like to test external drivers only setup and see whether I get less issues. Additionally using powerful motors and dedicated drivers would be an open option.

Why have the gshield mounted? You can wire the step/dir pins directly to the Due. (or with a protoboard with screw terminals)

@sszafran You absolutely can use a Due with external drivers. With or without the gShield. It’s really a matter of voltage level and protective circuitry.
