It’s amazing how MB managed to completely stop ripoff Replicators from Asia by going closed source.
Oh wait, never mind.

Why does everyone hate MB so much ? The market needs both open-source and closed-source players. That is a very healthy mix.

@Shachar_Weis Because they built a business around OSHW and community, until they decided to trade the respect of their community for some unknown value. Has going closed source specifically raised MB profits?

You know you are curious,

Thanks for your inquiry

Price for MakerBot Replicator 2 US$ 1660 including shipping cost to United States.

The price makes it kind of dubious… Hmmm, was wondering if it was a legit reseller at first

yeah both of them with mb2’s up are unverified.

@Chris_Thompson1 but MB going close-source was a major trigger for everyone to start making their own printers. The open-source community has grown considerably thanks to MB’s actions, we should all thank them.

@Shachar_Weis The wide availability of the Cupcake and the Prusa Mendel is the reason we have a dozen new consumer grade 3D printers built on OSHW. There will be no new machines derived from the Replicator 2, because the replicator is just an approximation of the Stratasys cartesian system and the Ultimaker. Even the unique features that MB developed and patented are forgotten. They are grooming themselves to be acquired and nothing more.
