How about splitting this community? One for original content (designs, builds, discussion). The other for link dumping.

I’m trying to find some time to take a look at the G+ API to see if that has something I can hook a notifier into…

It doesn’t.
The API only gives read-only access to only public posts of someone’s timeline.
It’s just a replacement for the missing RSS feed on your profile page.

There’s a bug-tracker ticket that can be starred but that doesn’t change anything.
