Good news before the weekend :) 3D Creations are planning to launch a Kickstarter

Good news before the weekend
3D Creations are planning to launch a Kickstarter in mid-2013 to begin production for the first open source 3D scanner that’s high-quality & low-cost 3D scanner.

first open source?
Who makes THAT claim?

“that’s high-quality & low-cost 3D scanner” from the article.

I expect issues with concave objects and sharp, deep vertical features where their structured-light aproach fails to identify what shadow belongs to what line.

Given that this the first version of the product, we may expect these issues to be partially resolved in the upcoming releases. And don’t forget that this is an open source project.

I’d prefer a line-laser.
Less focusin issues (deep/large objects) and not just open but free designs on Thingiverse since ages.

I have limited knowledge on the topic therefore I will check on your remarks. Thank you for reminding me on this.
