Does one need a resistor in front of the data line with WS2813?

talks about it for WS2812, but I’m not even sure it’s needed for WS2812B (to be honest, I never used one).
I did have a WS2813 strip go back soon after I started using it (without capacitor and resistor), so I’m wondering if that was it, or if the strip was just crap

i would assume so, as WS2813 seems to be a pretty minor variation of 2812, adding the intelligence to send the backup data signal.

@Ryan_Cush so, I just tried and at least the WS2813 strip I tried did not work with a resistor of 470. Even 100 Ohms was borderline. A straight wire works fine though. Both strips have resistor looking SMD components between each pixel, but they might be different?

@Marc_MERLIN Never used a resistor for any WS2812/SK6812 chip set, never saw any problems. Not sure why people recommend this

I did use resistors and it broke mine, so took them out!
