Cool Find. Hydrogen Generator from toy. Will turn it into a flame polisher

I was at my favorite surplus store when I came across a toy hydrogen fuel cell car for $1.00! It is missing the fuel cell but has the hydrogen generator. I also scored a 3 vdc solar cell.

So now I need to figure out how to best contain the hydrogen so I can make a flame polisher for acrylic.

Does this in some way work better than a torch?

The reason to use hydrogen is because of the “purity” of the flame.

Sounds religious how does the “purity” help?

Just clean and cheap!

I assume this is based on electrolysis? That’s really cool! And, yeah, the nice thing about hydrogen flames is no soot in the final product.

Why not use hot air ?

I’d like to know how this has progressed. I’ve been told that oxyhydrogen or air/hydrogen flames are quite difficult to see so can present some excitement in use.

Like all projects, this one is on temporary hold. It is funny that this topic came up again because I was just cleaning my “project” desk and came across the cell again. I guess I will have to put it back at the top of the list!
