So there is a company in Japan https://www.instagram.com/enomoto_3/ that’s been devolving this for ages now. They came out a while back saying that it was IMPOSSIBLE to make these reliable and repairable. Anyone who dumps money into this should be well aware

@Leon_Yuhanov I can only imagine it bending and flexing over time will eventually break any wiring or LED.

One of my earlier projects was a pair of ski poles with LED strips down the sides. One pole lasted half a day, the other for more than a week. Durability is a major issue with sporting gear.

I had a quick look, I’m surprised that they’re using WS2812Bs rather than WS2813Bs. The specs might just need updating though…

Same thing with my LED shoes, it doesn’t take too long before the strip, brakes from flexing the shoe.

A good question is what is and where is the battery system, I really wonder how they power all those leds.

@Marc_MERLIN I backed a project on Kickstarter with some remote LED shoes, they died VERY quickly I didn’t even get to wear them out. Somehow after leaving them sitting for too long and not charging them caused them to fail, not entirely sure that was possible, that was my only guess and the creator disappeared so no one was able to get their shoes fixed or replaced.

@nwestwind doh, that’s kickstarter for you, sorry you had this happen to you :frowning: / Speaking of LED shoes, I tried 7 different pairs from different companies, but only ever from amazon where I could return them at least during one month.
I ended up hacking 3 different pairs to upgrade the lipo batteries to last at least 12H (required for EDC and burning man), as well as allow faster charging and checking the battery level more easily:

@Marc_MERLIN @nwestwind DYI is probbaly the best thing for this kind of stuff! Overengineer it yourself, or you could hit me up https://etsy.com/au/shop/ElecDashTron if you cant be bothered :wink:

@Leon_Yuhanov nice… It’s not quite that I can’t be bothered as much as I’m already spending 100% of my time on the shirt, and I can’t spend that much effort on the shoes too, I need to outsource some stuff :slight_smile:
Eh, you’re in Melbourne. Do you know my friends from CCHS? http://www.hackmelbourne.org/
But back to your shop, I didn’t see any shoes there. Do you have some or do them custom order?

@Marc_MERLIN I was joking, no one here would purchase form me because most here are like me(and you) and can do this kinda stuff. But yes i take custom work all the time. Don’t know CCHS most hackerspaces in Melbourne are impossible to join because they are run by CLIQS of people (I stopped trying after a few) I might check this one out though if you say they are cool?

@Leon_Yuhanov I only know a few that I’ve met many times through the http://linux.conf.au conferences I’ve been going to since 2001. Jonathan Oxer, John Spencer and Andy Gelme are the main folks

As for “can do this kinda stuff”, well yes, but also it’s actually a lot of non trivial work and trial and error. Also I go to EDM festivals a lot and most attendees are 100% unable to build any of this while some do have money they’d be willing to spend to get some.
Rave gear is actually a business :slight_smile:

@Marc_MERLIN Yep, there is a market and thats why I do what I do!

@Leon_Yuhanov , you’re so right!

@Leon_Yuhanov Dude! I follow your stuff on Etsy and I’m dying to get a couple of your masks (eventually)! Incredible work. I follow you on Instagram too and I’m always impressed.
