The value of 3D printing as a manufacturing process varies from case to case. Also, in many cases, 3D printing should be less expensive than conventional manufacturing.
@Dale_Dunn Consider a case of a hospital planning to invest into this technology for implants and surgical devices. The direct cost , initially, is what I am referring to. What % do you reckon ? 
I’m not a hospital, but I’d think that each class of uses would still need to be evaluated individually.
