Z is 1/2" in air when running gcode

I’m new to cnc carving, this is my first machine, it is a Genmitsu 4040 Pro. I run UGS Platform with Grbl. I created a sign in Inkscape & sent it to Estlcam. I created a gcode. I ran the sample gcode & the z was good but when I ran my gcode it was about 3/8" in the air.

I’m sorta frustrated, but any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

In Estlcam is your machine set to reference Z 0 at the bed, or the top of your work piece. If you told it the bed, but zeroed on top the work piece, it will cut above the material. I prefer bed so I always cut through my material but not into the spoil board. I only change that if I am doing a V carve. Then I face the material and reference from the work piece top.
