Working on new cnc pattern (partial AI generated)

Working on a new cnc pattern. I will be carving this when the design is finalized. Still feels like its missing something. I’ll take a day or two away from the design and come back to it to see if something calls to me to add or change.

The idea behnd the pattern is meant to capture the tradition of several Great Plains indian tribes to use a flute as a courting tool.

The busts are AI generated.

It might be interesting if you made it into a flute holder and the flute was separate and able to be played.

lol. That would be interesting in only how big it would get.

In the Lacota tradition the courting flute was in about F# making it about 18-24 inches long.

I was thinking more of 12 x12 decoration plaque for my living room.

Had a small inspiration this morning. Added some roses symbolizing love and a hawk representing a thunderbird symbolizing strength. So adding symbolism for strong love for the courtship.

Final pattern. Now have to go see what lumber I have available or if I have to purchase some.

Additional elements were AI generated.

I’m curious: what type(s) of wood do you normally use for detailed 3D carvings like this?

A little bit of everything.

No 1 is probably walnut, then cherry, mahogany, Eastern red cedar, maple, purple heart, padauk and a few more exotic species.

I like to do my test carves in poplar.

The lumber I do not like to carve is in pine and oak.

Though the design is done the model still needs to be tweaked and cleaned up.

Since I literally just smashed a few different models together and hacked a few of them to fit there may be a few areas that may need a little help. lol Fast and dirty but then needs some post processing (3d modeling style).

Ported the model into my CAM software. Liking it so far. I still haven’t picked the lumber yet.

I did pull out some chunks of Easter red cedar I had. Its the last of a tree I milled a few years ago. There is reason its the last chunks and not because it was so pretty. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

What is your modeling software? Rhino? ZBrush? I’m unfamiliar with this UI.

EDIT: Is that Blender?!?

It is Blender but I also use Zbrush. My third art focused 3d modeling software I have is 3dCoat.
