With all the bad press about MakerBot it’s probably about time I got off Thingiverse. What alternatives do you all recommend?
Seconding YouMagine. Primarily because I don’t know who the hell is behind all those other sites. I know that YouMagine is run by @Erik_de_Bruijn , founder of @Ultimaker . Ultimaker stood by their open source roots and are an amazingly successful company.
If @LulzBot , or @Printrbot had a site that were similar, I’d be recommending them too!
Has youmagine created an android app yet?
@Sebastian_Karpp looks to be the only name on G+ for Yeggi.com’s whois data. And I see some 3D printing activity on his page…maybe he can show up to the community!
Another Youmagine user here. It’s a little ironic: I used to contribute to thingiverse in the early days, but now thanks to their parent’s policies I’m pretty much a parasite there.
I fully endorse youmagine. I even send out little cards with every package suggesting youmagine. Erik is great and a friend. They are doing good work. My only wish list item is an open Api for mobile apps to pull from their repository. That would be awesome. Then I’d write a mobile version that slices for my printers and maybe even controls them
Thanks @Mark_MARKSE_Emery for asking and everyone else for your recommendations. I had the same question and I am sure a lot of people do, too. Cc: @Adrian_Perez
Thanks all, I’ve signed up to YouMagine.
BTW, checked out http://shaped.com and it seems to be like GitHub for 3D projects. The model repository is at http://community.shapedo.com.
I use shapedo as well. The thingiverse importer is an awesome feature.
