White block on red wire next to laser tube started to crackle and catch alight

It would be interesting to cross-section that block to see what’s inside if anything other than a splice.

How old is your machine?

@donkjr, When @Jason_Harrison replaced his LPS recently he had one of these ceramic block splices. Apparently the wires were just twisted together inside the block and then sealed up with electrical tape where the wires go in.

Yea @donkjr there was nothing inside it other then the two wires. They were simply twisted together. The only “safety” it has is the block and a bunch of electrical tape. If I had the forethought I would have taken pictures.

I was just wondering if there was a ballast resistor in it, the old vintages had one in series with the HV.
Instead it’s just a crappy splice!
