While scrapping out some old computer towers I thought to my self… if I bolted two or three atx size cases together after removing a side panel or two and motherboard mouting plate… a cheap enclosure for a 3d printer could be built for a few $ of items that would be thrown in the trash
One should make cash out of trash if possible , feasible , worthwhile , spare time is available , cost/benefit and risk/reward ratios are favorable , and buy or make decision is to make an object rather .
Great idea Alex!
I already had this idea and had several old computer carcasses. My problem was the cases I had were too short to get a tall enough z-axis. I wanted a minimum of 200mm and none of mine were that tall. I know it will work because some computer cases are built very very strong and a 3D printer made of them will be very much stronger than most kits or ready builts. I ended up buying a nice kit that works really well but I am still tinkering with the idea of making an enclosure out of old computer cases to keep the heat at a steady rate and also keep in the smell of ABS. Looking forward to hearing about your build, It should be rock solid, if built out of the right cases.
