Which stepper motor do I need

I am using my cnc which I’m building now, I am also wanting to use it for a 3d printer too, I am getting the Smoothie x5…What is the best and strongest stepper motor do I need to use… I do want the best performance for both. I see there is 4 wire 6 wire and 8 wire ?? motor… I see the board can only do a 2amp motor, should I use a driver. I am a newbie to this.

You want a bipolar stepper motor.

If you are going to use Smoothie’s on-board drivers, the maximum current is 2A. If using external drivers, the maximum is the driver’s maximum.

Building a CNC is a big project, I very strongly recommend you read a *lot* online before doing this.
