I did a bit of looking and found there are some cutting edge asymetrical patterns being used for the purpose, but I figure there must be variations in the transmissibility of different common infills. Any materials scientists out there that could weigh in?
Also, I imagine that different filaments would have different vibration transmission characteristics.
I’m building a servo-controlled musical instrument, and printing a bracket to hold the servos. It needs to hold them securely, while transmitting as little noise as possible from the servos to the body.
I have PLA, PETG, PA-6, ABS and PETG-CF available. I have a bambu that can print with multiple filaments, in case that is a strategy.
I thought of rubber dampers, but my concern is that I don’t want the servos to move at all under tension. That will affect tuning. Obviously rigidity and vibration transmission are working at cross purposes!
Well, I’m not making the instrument! But if I were I’d definitely start with the classic solutions and try other things only if they didn’t work. Hard felt and cork are two other materials used this way.
