What is everyone making with their CNC routers

I’m using a CNCEST 600x400 with a 1.5kw spindle. Here are a few samples of what I make.

Nice work.
What software are you using?

I use Artcam + Mach3. This is what I first learned to use. I know they are the not the latest and greatest but they do what i need.

Do those start out as photographs? I’m curious how you generate the depth map or whatever gets you the half depth for the design to pop out like that.
Nice painting skills too!

I purchase the STL files on ebay, etsy, ect. I have sent a photo to a company that converted it to a STL file for a fee. Once you have the STL file you set the dimensions including dept in your cam software. I try to match the dimensions to the wood slab I’m cutting. I’m generally using slabs that are 25-50mm thick. My CNC table size is 600x400mm so 575x375mm is pretty much my max cutting area. I run 2 passes. First is rough pass with a 6mm endmill, second a 0.5mm tapered bit for finish pass. The painting is done by a local artist.

I just tried adding some resin.

You gotten me all pumped up with all the cool carvings. It’s been a while since I had any real creativity and even though this is not really all that creative it’s been a ton of fun.

Started working on a new piece.

I am calling it the Texas Menagerie. A few of the animals you can find in Texas.

All the animals are AI generated with AI depth maps and a little bit of clean up in Blender (my normal process). Now have to play with the composition. Each animal is its own pattern. May add or delete a couple of animals.

I need to add a barbed wire circle around the star as well.

Wow, that is some nice work. Do you run 2 passes on cnc? How many machine hours did that take?
I am illiterate when it comes to Blender. I have tried Blender several times with mixed results.

I am still in the design phase. The image is 3d rendered for visualization. I am not happy with the placement of the animals and will rearrange their location. Still need to add a few more elements. Probably a barbed wire circle around the Texas star.

Blender is not easy. It took me three starts before it clicked. It has made huge improvements in usability since when I started but still a large learning curve. It is a ton of fun for making cnc patterns and 3d models for print.

P.S. I’ll move to a new thread showing my design work so I don’t hijack this cool thread. I will eventually share this as a grayscale height map pattern. I am unfamiliar with artcam. Fusion360 has an addon to convert height maps but don’t know what artcam has.

Oscar do I know you from the other cnc forum?
Your design would cut nicely at 25-50mm deep. Maple or walnut would be my choice. I look forward to seeing you bring that design to life.

Always enjoy seeing your carves and your painter is fabulous.

…what’s the name of the company you send the files to?..
