Besides the ARC-10 receiver I modified in high school … like this one

Looked very similar to this ARC receiver. The round item in the rear is a motor generator to generate the voltages needed for the tubes from the 400Hz airplane supply.

Part of the conversion was building a power supply to get rid of the motor generator. It wasn’t awfully noisy, but you could definitely hear it, still too noisy for home operation. Not to mention most of us don’t have 400Hz power available.


The HW-16 was my first transceiver.

My uncle got me a Heathkit HW-16, to build, with an external variable frequency oscillator (VFO) so I could tune other frequencies without having a rock (crystal) for that specific frequency. I still have mine and fire it up now and then.


Just another indicator that I’m rapidly getting older :poop:
