Answering the obvious question: $2K pre-order, more later, if they survive. Which leads to the next question: If you invest in this and they don’t make it, what about firmware? I’m not in the market for a P&P machine, but if I were buying one from a startup, I don’t think I’d do it without open source firmware.

Personally, I think there is so much packed into Marlin that there is no reason to have any custom firmware. Just feed it gcode like a 3D printer. I do not see a reason why you can’t have one that is a 3D printer or a laser cutter. In fact, lasing a board to make the circuit pattern and then populating it sounds like it would be oh so lovely.
