Well, it'll be interesting to see how much this ends up costing.

MakerBot unveils Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner prototype at SXSW

I wonder if this is in any way related to @Tony_Buser 's SpinScan (https://github.com/tbuser/spinscan)?

I had the same question, why isn’t it on Thingiverse anymore? It was. Wasn’t it?

Ha, because @MakerBot1 and @bre_pettis , that’s why.

“The MakerBot Digitizer shown at SXSW is still a prototype model and MakerBot will need time testing and improve.”

So… They’ve already started shipping it?

Nope, sounds to me like it’s still at least 6 months away from being shipped.

Since when do they wait until something works before shipping??

yeah they later say “MakerBot will start taking orders in the fall.”

OH SNAP!

At least they’re bringing this kind of stuff to market. Hate on MakerBot all you want, but I don’t see anyone else selling kits or anything. The thing I’m really looking forward to is Lulzbot selling lyman filament extruder kits.

No I agree @ThantiK , they are in a position to market things like this on big stages. But we will just have to wait and see. Will it be patented etc… This is good for competition in the marketplace.

Spinscan is still on thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:9972

I stand corrected!

They really raped Tonys SpinScan?

@Josef_Prusa Tony is employed by the MakerBot empire…
