Was thiking of using this design for a big printer project. Has anybody tried to use a single motor for each x and y axes intead of twin motor? It should be possible with a long shaft (side to side) with 2 pulleys. And this configuration (theoretically) should guarantee perfect synchrony in both sides. Anybody tried ?

we tired all and no sync problem if use double motor , tested with short shaft too (450mm) with alu tube and no issue too. but for semplicity and for future maintance i suggest to use double motor configuration . with long shaft need extremly precision to mount too. 20euro plus save you more time in future.

Lots of printers sync two sides of an XY bridge gantry with a 5mm shaft, that’s not hard to do. But it’s easier to run wiring to two motors than to do all the sync shaft arrangement and design.
