Topomiller lets you select a map region (or US state) and download an STL or PNG heightmap of that region!

I’m in the middle of downloading a huge (229mb) STL file of Washington state, so I haven’t actually really used this yet, but it looks ridiculously cool!

Here is the tutorial video from the website:

Pretty cool; requires a login though.
I went looking for a European version and found https://map2stl.com/ which is (currently?) free. Funnily enough a .stl of Amsterdam is basically flat; this is going to be much more useful for places which actually have a topology

Yeah, login was free, but I couldn’t ever get it to work anyway. It just churns away for over 10 minutes saying it is almost ready. Then when it finally started to download, it took forever, I looked away and when I came back it said the download failed at 10mb. I have gigabit fiber internet, and I just built my PC less than a month ago and it is plenty fast enough (AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, 48gb RAM, fast 2TB M.2 SSD, and NVidia RTX 5080 16gb).

So either Firefox isn’t supported or it is just vaporware.

Sorry for the distraction.

Hey! That https://map2stl.com/ is pretty good! I found a region, generated the STL and downloaded it in less than a minute–no login required. Much better. Thanks!
