These are a photo and a Solidworks screengrab of a dual motor opposed hob direct drive extruder I’ve been using successfully for some time. Makes gorgeous prints at reasonable speeds ( 80 mm/sec ). The TOTAL mass (extruder, effector, E3D hotend) is 460 grams which is fairly low for such a system. But, I’m now in the mid stages of a design/build of a system which should strip out a significant proportion of the weight - about 120 grams for the extruder alone and hopefully another 100 or so more later.
The new concept will involve all the offending elements - extruder, effector and hotend. The extruder portion is nearly complete and is awaiting parts for assembly. Then onward to effector base and hotend. <<< Simplificate and Add Lightness >>>
Wow I was going to comment on the weight and ask questions, but your post is pretty through. Would definitely like to see the finished product
