The Woodsmith Shop episode on CNC

For folks in the U.S., The Woodsmith Shop episode playing now on my local PBS affiliate is on CNC.

I looked online for the episode but found none with CNC mentioned. Do you recall what the episode title was or at least the project?

It doesn’t seem to be on their website yet.

From memory, they were using an Autodesk program (not sure which one) for CAD, Vectric (I think, but not sure which one Vcarve or Aspire since they show a 3D STL and V-carving) — they show using tabs and T-bones on the cut part), workholding is shop-made wooden things at a ghastly angle, but they don’t discuss which program is used to control the machine — not sure if it’s Easel or VTransfer.

Projects were a bench (w/ 3D decoration inset into it) and V carved quote, and a tool tote made of 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood, large French curves made of acrylic (for which they use double-sided tape), and cutting 1/8" aluminum w/ manually applied cutting oil and no vacuum to make (non-adjustable) blades for squares.

Since they obviously like making things and sharing, would have been interesting if they thought of doing a show making things with software which was made by people who like making things and sharing. They might not even know of the concepts but because of open source, hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of makers are able to afford doing word working with CNC, laser cutting and engraving machinery.
