The proof of how 3D printing is improving your life.

The proof of how 3D printing is improving your life. This cast provides more support for broken bones. See more, http://tiny.cc/t4jlzw

great idea but how do you get it on to the arm?

Not an improvement.

How is this, “Not an improvement.” @CornGolem ? Did you actually look at the article? It’s a great improvement!

I don’t like the remove-ability of it. Causes potential problems. It also seems like it would take a certain, very durable and stiff material to provide the same support as a traditional cast otherwise would be very prone to breakage or flexibility that could harm the wearer.

I agree - its a tradeoff, rather than an outright improvement; excluding the ability to get it wet, which is a boon, certainly.

Accually if you’d use abs mixed with a schrinking material, you’d only need to heat it and it will shape to the arm. Once cooled down you can take a shower with it! Much better than a cast!

Or maybe you could stretch the plastic while warm. Then when heat is applied again it will turn back i to the smaller shape.

As a bonus it looks really cool.

I can see it now…a Spiderman themed one

This was designed by a designer as a proof-of-concept. It’s a concept that bears no scientific rigor. I’ve seen this multiple times this week and it’s the hype overshadowing reality. This isn’t being adopted anywhere medically. The ideas are nice but until they are applied to something stronger than an art project it sets up false expectations with the follow-through of CGI renders of video games.

This is more fun http://www.koreus.com/video/prothese-jambe-lego.html

@Chris_Reyes I don’t know if you’ve seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoZ2BgPVtA0
I realise prostetics is a completely different thing, but is not like 3D printers are not used at all in the medical field.

@Diogo_V_Kersting Absolutely! Brought tears to my eyes, showed the greatness that is 3D printing, and I shared it with everyone I know. It’s not how 3D printing is being USED; It is in how it’s being REPORTED especially by those in the 3D printing community. Passing this off as a current or even attempted “medical application” of the technology as has been done by various 3D printing leaders (@Scojet_Inc included) is wrong. It creates hype and then disillusionment, which kills adoption, because you’ve lost trust in what is possible.
