Is anyone printing tensegrity sculptures?
Playing around with ideas. These are pretty rough but adding some flairs could make them pretty interesting.
If you are, what are you all thinking would be cool?
I had never heard of it. I like the ones with magnets built in:
I would use thin fish line instead of chains
You can even 3d print the support lines for print-in-place tensegrity. 3DPrintBunny (Natalie Cheesmond) has done a lot with that; even made working print-in-place tensegrity sandals!
Gents, thank you for the replies.
@hennep, thank you for the magnet reference. I had not seen those and they really open up another avenue for design.
These 3d models were just some initial design concepts for a minimalist sculpture I am playing with. They would be 3d printed and I use fishing line for them.
I’ve been making and printing these little sculptures for the last year or two and its a rabbit hole I got sucked in.
They have become a fun mental and 3d print execution exercise. I have given most of them away after seeing if they work. My cats think it the funniest thing to see how many times they bounce after they push them out of balance. They can collapse with some force due to the tension.
@mcdanlj , I had not seen those designs either. There are some really amazing and talented folks out there.
Magnetically held sculpture idea. Just playing with concepts for now.
