Surfacing my wasteboard is one of the first things I need to do. Some online charts for my 1", 3 flute Whiteside bit suggest 200-600 ipm feed and 12-16,000 rpm. 200 ipm seems a little fast, 600 pretty ridiculous, but as I’m only taking 0.025" off at a time I thought I’d try to get close to 200 ipm, 12k rpm. At this speed/feed two sides of the cut go fairly well with a clean surface, but the third side burns like crazy, then the fourth is fine again. This is really odd as I didn’t think MDF had any grain to it and would cut the same in all directions. Any ideas why that’s happening?

I use. 5/8” dia two flute router bit at high speeds, 15k?, and feed rates of 200 ipm with a small overlap. About 10%. I only cut 1mm at a pass and it is perfect in every direction. Is your cutter dull?
