You may put the silica gel in nylons. So you can withdraw it with ease to dry it if needed. It also prevents from contact to the filament.

Silica cat sand is a cheap source of silica gel I put mine in a large sock and stick it in the box. It will dry out plastic that has absorbed moisture to the extend of going in brittle to the touch and coming out a day later all nice and bendy
