Steppers or Servomotors?

Steppers or Servomotors?

i use stepper because of price

I will re-phrase the question: open or closed loop? If I could afford it, I will chose closed-loop in a blink.

Check these out: http://www.teknic.com/products/clearpath-brushless-dc-servo-motors/
I am considering using these in my next project as the ‘stepper killers’ are both far more powerful and very easy to use compared to steppers and far easier to use than servos. Everything is integrated in one small unit, and controlled with the usual step/direction inputs. And they are very low cost compared to other systems, starting at $257! And you can test them for several months and then return them for a full refund if you’re still not satisfied, which would be rather unlikely…

@Miguel_Sanchez , these are closed loop!

@Stein-Erik_Dahle they look great!

I agree with Miguel Sanchez, it’s a question of either closed or open loop system. If money is not an object, I’d choose closed loop too.

But Gecko Drive have a guide to help choose between the two based on project requirements.

You’re not wrong! What happened there then? full marks for spotting the deliberate mistake!

…and bang on with the open or closed loop comment buddy, you’re correct, that’s the way I should have phrased the post.

It depends on the price but also by the speed linked to the power
