Spool Storage Units for Small Parts

All,

I have a small stack (10) of spent fillament spools.

I 3D printed 8 individual spool boxes and the plastic pins for said spool boxes.

Similar to the below thingiverse.

Is there a guide or a process to print and assemble these Spool Storage units based on the size of the spool.

The reason I am asking is the 4 boxes per spool seem to be slightly too large for my spent Spools. (Before Assembly)

I assemble, correct me if I am wrong, by using a drill press to drill 4 holes in the spent spools through both sides of spool. Use the pins through the holes into the boxes holes.

Once assembled the final box always seems to large.

Do I scale down? Is there some website you plug in the spool dimensions and it generates a properly sized box set (4)? Some standard set of calculations and scaling?

Trying to stay on top of the spools I have not recycled.

Thanks for the help,

Chris

you should be able to scale down the prints in your slicer program. Maybe you should measure the spool you are printing the carousel for and then use the measure tool in your slicer program, then you should have the ratio to scale them down with… I use Cura as my slicer program, but ‘all’ slicer’s have these tools.
