So the X-string on my Simple broke, I am contacting them for a replacement. But no good hacker would be happy with “wait for parts to arrive” so I have been trying some things i have in my junk drawer. I have a spool of hemp twine and some yarn. The yarn gripped really well, but frayed before any really printing started. The twine was not very strong,

So my solution is to use the twine and make a 4 thread flat braid. It grips really really well, and is quite strong. Has this been tried before? It is i nice hack if needed.

Here is a link to how to do a 4 strand flat braid.

The issue may be the stretch in the braid you made (in the shade?). Spectra has a very low stretching factor (not a technical term). You can get it at pretty much any fishing shop, you’d want 60lb upwards.

I imagine unwaxed dental floss would work better than either of those, just don’t set the acceleration/jerk too high.

the braid is working well actually, it sits flat on the pulley and has very little stretch if you braid it tightly.

another small benefit is that you don’t need to not the end, you just sick the pinning bolt through a braid,we will see how long it lasts, as a said it was simply a hack to get it up and running.

Interesting. When it frays, I think you can get spectra at sports shops and walmart. ProPower 65# comes in green and yellow.
