So in the wake of my frustrations with my current machine i have opted to begin a 2nd machine with the knowledge gain from the first. this one will have a different focus though. I’ve decided to go for a RepStrap delta 3d printer. It just so happens that during my first build i bought electronics for a 3d printer… ya know just in case…so i bought three 2 meter sticks of Misumi 1515 extruded aluminum, a set of rollers that match that extrusion, an 8 ft x 4 ft 3/4" MDF sheet, and four Kysan motors (1124090). well that about sums it up for the purchased parts. i intend to use steel balls and magnets for the arms and have some old arrow shafts that are no longer fit for service (fletching and or knock is missing). the machine will be fully enclosed in a box that will measure about 2’x2’x3’ circle made by Misumi shafts will be approx 20". i had planned on using the spectra fishing line approach but either usps decided to mark my item as shipped with out dropping it off or someone else decided they really had to have 100m of 60 lbs test braided fishing line… not sure why though…

which by the way is there any one out there willing to donate like 10m or so to my machine so i don’t have to spend more money and wait more time for the stinking thing to come from china again…? if any one wants to help i would gladly pay for the shipping as it could likely fitting a standard envelope. heck id even pay a few bucks for the fishing line as well…

well anyway the build is on I’ve begun cutting the MDF. I intend to make all the files for my design available opensource if any one is interested. But the design is intended to be made with only simple tools such as a jig saw(could be done by hand), hand drill and even simple drawing tools for layout. once i get a lil more time ill post some pics since as of right now its mostly in my head and a few sheets of MDF without much shape to them.

any who question comments concerns all welcome… also the thing with the fishing line, let me know

tl;dr all. But delta are very nice, but hard to calibrate

Hi all, nice project. I actually intend to build a second printer (a delta after a reprap prusa one), but i have to finish my cnc router first  So i would be very interested by your design and mods.

Yes, my first machine is a router by design but should be more than capable of many different jobs with the proper add-ons. I found that with my design constrains and attempts to cut cost and make the most efficient design possible have backed me into a corner. Its not unfix-able but it would be easier to fix with a 3d printer on hand for strange brackets and things. Also juggling thoughts of just scraping the design and starting over with a different style in mind. My biggest mistake is to try and use motion components as structural components. Next time around, as with this delta design, the frame will be separate and not depend on the rails. This allows a much more rigid structure without adding ridiculous cost and provide an opportunity to align the rails without messing the rest of the machine up in the process. Any who once I get back to my design computer I can upload some screen shots of the intended frame. hopefully tomorrow i should get some time to do some more cutting
