So I'm really wanting to know more about about 3d printers and I would

So I’m really wanting to know more about about 3d printers and I would like to build my own from scratch. Can’t seem to find to many resources on this and wondering if u guys can help.

I want to build it as cheap as possible size doesn’t matter as this would be more for learning then using.

I have old parts and computers, printers, CD-ROM drives, I have no problem taking my time to learn and read about this.

I’ve never done 3d printing but would like too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

We’ve got a lot to look at here . . .http://openbuilds.com/?category=3d-printer-builds&id=272

Look at http://instructables.com. Lots of tutorials there for 3D printers using cd drives. Though would not expect any good quality prints.

Honestly, I would start with a cheap kit. Gets you the experience and learning from building your own kit, will still require a lot of hands-on tweaking and improving the print quality, but allows you to source most if not all parts from a single vendor to start.

@John-Paul_Hopman any suggestions with that then? I don’t really want to spend a lot until I know I’m able to do this and that I can learn how to do this

I can’t personally recommend anything. I would probably start with either Folger Tech or Alibaba. Look for i3 clones to start for their build area, preferably with a metal frame.

3D printing isn’t too difficult though, consider trying to learn Fusion360 or a similar modeling application while you are looking. For me, modeling is the hard part.

http://reprap.org/ has plenty of designs available.

@Anthony_D_Amico try to find some old flatbed scanners, or all in one printers. those usually have a small steppermotor, a belt, a belt tensioner and one or two rails. Good for cheap/free parts to start with.
