So I have been looking at some ways to generate filiment and I still have yet to figure out why people are paying $150+ for a resistor, auger, pipe and motor?

The Lyman filament extruder costs $245 (according to its BOM). What do you get for less than $150 ?
I priced it out for a filastruder and it would of cost me more then I backed it for. But then I’m in Canada and it’s harder/cost more to get stuff here.
As far as I can find $150 gets me an auger, 12v 40amp power supply, power resistor, pid, pipe.
I’m sure I could hit walmart for a cheap variable speed drill to run the auger.

Well let us know when you’re successful at manufacturing good filament.
You need a motor that can turn slowly, with a lot of torque and keep a constant speed no matter how much resistance it gets. Choosing the right motor is very important and needs to be factored into the cost as well. Figuring you will use something you already have lying around isn’t likely to work out. Figure you will need to get a number of things shipped from different places as well, including the pipe. The pipe can’t have a weld seam on the inside, which rules out any you will find at the hardware store.
