So here we go!!
My Ultimaker original coming together. After finding bent shafts that I purchased from China I have sourced some 8mm shaft in the UK that I am cutting to size and are a fraction to wide for the brass linear bearings!! Go figure… So looks like a ball bearing race upgrade will need to be performed
Electronics tomorrow. Building from Creative Commons licensed plans! Not for the faint hearted !!!
ooooooooooo aaaaaaaaaaa wat is it?
Ultimaker original 3D Printer
Did you get a kit for this? Where can I go to learn more?
No kit. Just from plans. Ultimaker have kindly made them available on GitHub under the Creative Commons license.
so if i’m totally new to 3d printing where should i start? the local library has one, so i was going to start there. do you have any suggestions?
Yes find your local maker lab, fablab, MAKLab and learn there on how to use a 3D printer. If you want to buy one get one either ready made or as a kit. The Ultimaker 2 is a very good 3D Printer. If you want to learn absolutely everything from end to end it is a steep learning curve, but a good one, then build one or two designs under the Creative Commons License. After that you will want to buy everything ready built
Also it would be extremely handy to have a lathe, vice, angle grinder and all of the associated tools and measuring equipment!!
