So all of a sudden the print shifted 7-8 mm.

So all of a sudden the print shifted 7-8 mm. Any ideas why?

Something either slipped or stuck. Check tensions and grease.

The usual: Belt slipped (tension good?), or gear slipped on stepper shaft (screws tight?).

ah ok thanks guys

Other possibility: The stepper motor skipped because of the driver overheating, the current being set to low or the acceleration setting set too high.

It is a bit tough to tell but it looks like it slipped a few times. Is it always in one dimension? If not, make sure that the controller is not overheating (polyfuses?) and that the entire object did not lift from the bed and move.

What is that object anyhow?

I do want to check the current on the drivers but not so sure how to do it or what the tolerances should be for current.

Its an apparatus for holding a grow medium cube. I’m building a grow system that controls water temp and other things.

Grease those smooth rods!

am with Carlton Dodd the pulleys "slipped " check the grub screw

Yeah, I had a few issues going on. A nut came all the way off, the belt was not tight at all and the rod ends really needed to be tended to.

Shouldn’t have anymore problems now. Thanks everyone

Im actually pretty happy that I’ve gotten it to print this well. I’ve tried to get this thing to print forever and I’ve finally got it to work right. So, happy day.

I vote for a skipped step. Normally loose setscrews and slipping pulleys slip in both directions, not just one…

Its still shifting. Its only in the Y direction though.

Im actually wondering if the shift is caused by the cable getting caught just a little at random times.

@Matthew_garsteck
That’s definitely possible, but steppers are pretty strong. I’ve torn cables out when they got caught.

Adjust the stepper current, I have the same problem before, and one the motor current is setup correctly, it will fix the issue. http://reprap.org/wiki/RepRapPro_Setting_Motor_Currents
