Since I am unable to attend #MRRF2018, I decided that in the spirit of thew event I will do a marathon upgrade of my fleet of Di3’s to C3D mini boards running Smoothieware, add inductive Z-probe sensors, and change the hot ends to a bowden extruders with E3D V6 clone hot ends. At least one of the machines will be getting a 3.2" touchscreen, if that goes well, all 3 will get the touchscreens.
Got all the mechanicals complete on the first unit. Z tower braces to stiffen the towers, internal rod & nut z braces for the Z axis lead screws and rods, takes out some of the wobble, E3DV6 clone mount with hole for inductive sensor, fan duct etc., bowden mount for the stepper/extruder Need to make a spool holder for it, just not sure on the best placement yet.
Today’s fun will be to deconstruct the control box, and install a C3D mini controller and hook up all the wiring, then get a working config file on the go. After that, just some tuning to get the best possible print. I will print a benchy on one without the mods, and on one that the mods are complete on. I am interested to see what type of quality increase there will be.
Tomorrow will be recreating all this on 2 more Di3’s. Oh joy oh fun!
