@Simplify3D and a tricky print (hole very near the edge). V3 on the left, V4 with “Allow single extrusion walls” on the right. Note the way the single perimeter is actually shaped around the hole (waisted in the middle). Nice one!

I wonder why the option isn’t on by default?

#3DPrinting

That explains a recent print where the model showed a small vertical void and the print resulted in a much larger gap. Had I installed v4 and turned on that feature, the hole would have been smaller perhaps.

Waisted, having a waist of a specified kind (usually used in combination): long-waisted; high-waisted. 2. (of an object, a container, etc.) shaped like a waist; having concave sides: a waisted vase,
or
wasted, used or expended carelessly, extravagantly, or to no purpose.
“wasted fuel” synonyms: squandered, misspent, misdirected, misused?

I’m going to guess the latter. Just finished watching Weird Al Yankovik’s Word Crimes only moments ago. He must be quite a pedantic fellow, my hero!

I’ll have to double check my single extrusion wall settings forthwith.

No I really meant the former, as in having a waist. The filament bead thins slightly in the middle.

I thought there was that possibility, as both options kinda fit, although the wasted version fits less than the intended one.

Waisted = Hourglass figure. Slightly. Looking forward to playing with V4.

I think this is the best new feature in v4.0!

Multiple processes no longer introducing artificial bottom and top layers is really useful as well.

and a wizard to assist the process creation as well. Not that it was too difficult, though. I would have liked to see an option for “start print at” and “stop print at” with a choice between distance and layer number.

slic3r and cura do this by default… i switched to them because of this feature as i have to print many singlelines on purpose

Guys, check out kisslicer, it’s got this feature for years, and the new 1.6 witch is still in beta is just mind blowing. Nothing really comes close. Does everything auto, from layer hight to extr. with for overhangs. Mildly said, light years ahead of everything other. Give it a try, you won’t regret it

You need to enable variable extrusion width too so those other holes get a single thick infill line instead of the wiggle infill around them

first thing i tried to slice in clunky kisslicer just crashed - haven’t revisited.

@Dave_Johnson By variable extrusion width do you mean “allow single extrusion fill” for “Internal Wall Type”? Or is there an option elsewhere?

@Mark_Wheadon yup, that’s it - so nice !
