Simple step stool

Working on a design for a simple step stool from on construction 2" x 6" x 8’ board.

Be careful!

That looks great, but my wife had painted a similar step stool years ago. The problem is that when you put your weight on the upper step, all the force is on the two rear feet and the thing will try to roll out from under you. I threw that stool away because it was so dangerous.

Thank you for the caution and valid design concern.

This stool is designed to be butted against something to use for safety.

It will tip if you push your center of weight too forward but it is surprisingly stable. It took a bit of effort to make it tip.

For new woodworkers, for a stable step stool to be used by its lonesome the base should be larger than the top step so all the force is directed downward instead of laterally.

I didn’t mention what the step stool is for. It is meant to be butted to my bed frame so my aging pups can crawl into bed and act as my little heaters. ;D
