Recycling in 3D Printing #MasterSpool #CardboardSpool initiatives:
Yo’ dawg.
i make a check but seem the price are more or less the same… so why???
@Marco_Tonoli To reduce pollution. Then, more filament for the same price.
Shipping gets cheaper, because weight will be under 1 kg.
I see this as an evolution towards standard spools. And where manufacturers can sell some of their more popular and beginner friendly materials with a spool as an option (perhaps at the expense of a bit less on the spool) and then let the rest of their filaments be sold without spools. This means you can print a spool if you have to, but mostly you get reusable spools with the filament you buy.
But this kind of market has to start somewhere, and like most markets it starts out small. We have to prove that we have an interest in this as a solution, otherwise no manufacturers will take the risk of mass producing more costly spools. They have to sell these spools at a higher price and if there isn’t a fairly large market for that already, they won’t sell them at a high enough volume.
It’s one of those stupid lock ins market mechanisms can give us, and we can solve it with printers and a bit of effort.
@Harald_Thingelstad We hope, eventually we will get there. RichRap3D said that many more filament producers will take part in this initiative coming summer.
