Qidi permanently banned a customer for reporting that a Qidi Plus4 caught fire and destroyed their entire house

R/QidiTech3d Permanently banned me for warning people after my family lost everything from a fire!

Remember the Anet A8 debacle, where there were many reports of them catching fire and burning down people’s houses? Anyone know anyone who buys an Anet printer today?

Qidi is making this worse. Not only did they have a serious and elementary design flaw, but then they also tried to bury the news by issuing a permanent ban against a user who reported that he lost his house as a result.

The Qidi Plus4 has an AC-powered bed heater. This is fine. They use an SSR to control it. This is also fine. They do not have a thermal fuse controlling the bed. This is not just a fire hazard, it’s basically a guaranteed fire some day.

SSRs fail, and when they fail, they fail conducting, which means that when they fail, the bed will be heated at full power indefinitely. This is eventually going to lead to a fire. Even hobbyists building printers with SSR-controlled bed heaters know this. Like me. I have a thermal fuse permanently bonded to the bed of my printer with an SSR-controlled AC bed heater. That thermal fuse will interrupt electrical power if the temperature of the bed exceeds a reasonable temperature.

SSRs are basically limited-lifetime parts. As I understand it, if you use them long enough, they will fail, almost certainly in this mode.

It is absolutely inexcusable for a manufacturer to create an SSR-controlled mains-powered hot bed and not use a thermal fuse bonded to the bed.

Lets permanently ban Qidi !!

With the current US political administration, I do not expect a functional Consumer Product Safety Commission.

But really this should be handled at a national level: In every nation in which they do business, Qidi should be forced to cover all costs of recall and of all fires caused by this engineering malfeasance, and barred from all sales of all their products until they comply with this requirement.

If that puts them out of business, well, folks like me with other Qidi printers will suffer from lack of replacement parts, but compared to burning down more people’s houses, that’s a minor inconvenience.

Do you know when the message on Reddit was posted?
Even if it is an April fools day joke, they will lose customers

I read about it yesterday, before it was April 1 in any geography.

But yeah, also Happy only-day-in-the-year-anyone-doubts-what-they-read-on-the-Internet Day everyone, and good thought to ask that question — it would be a pretty cruel prank.
